Reflection: I started to run about ten years ago. I was able to lose some weight and a lot of my pains and aches disappeared. Because of this I am a believer in aerobic exercise. While others have mentioned Pilates or even weight-training I have been reluctant. Probably because I don't love exercise in general and I somehow was sticking with running and so I felt like that was enough. Then I took the Pilates class. First of all I enjoyed it. It felt like the kinds of things we would do when we were kids. Like 'try this' or 'can you do this' type of games. Everything in the beginning was challenging and that was a little disappointing because I thought I was in decent shape. The Teaser, in particular, seemed impossible. I had my family trying it with me every night to see if anyone besides the instructor could really do it.

As the classes progressed I could actually feel myself getting strong. In under two hours a week I was gaining core muscles. My clothes fit better. My running started to improve and I no longer felt pain during my long runs. The class was a 6 AM class and I did dread waking up, initially. But as time went on I found that it was the perfect start to my day. I talked so much about it, when my daughter visited from New York she insisted on checking it out.

At the end of the semester I found myself disappointed that the class was over. I signed up at the county gym for a membership so I could supplement my running with Pilates. Today I feel stronger and the aches and pains many people at my age feel are not there. I continue to run but Pilates is the one I love.
