FHS 1500-Life Span Development
In the class Life Span Development we examined every aspect of life from birth to death. We covered the physical changes, cognitive growth and decline and emotional and social development. Throughout the semester we conducted observations on different age groups, discussed many difficult topics between each other and completed various assignments concerning the challenges of life. For our final project we had to analyze the critical events that had occurred in our lives to make us who we are. We also created some form of art to give an idea of who we are.

Reflection: This class took us on a journey through life. Having lived a pretty long life as well as raising my kids to adulthood I felt like I knew almost everything, and a lot of it I did. One thing that the class offered that I had never experienced was information about other cultures. I loved that in every chapter and in every stage of life there was some information about how other people in other countries respond to the changes or to the relationships in their lives. It is nice to be reminded that “our” way is not the only way.
My favorite part of the class was the observations. We had to watch or interview people at different stages of life. Watching babies and children is absolutely delightful. They are so uninhibited and I was reminded of how great that time of life is. I also interviewed my mother and it was one of the best things I have done. Our conversations are so frequently about me or my kids and so it was delightful to hear her speak of her life. I realize I may not have many more years with her so I will cherish that conversation forever.
My final project was so emotional and inspiring to me…until I tried to turn it in. Then the stress level went through the roof. I had my son trying to condense the file and my other son on the phone trying to come up with solutions. The file was way too large to send and the deadline was fast approaching. I loved creating the Power Point and I hope my kids will enjoy it...but oh the stress.
